ON THE BUS
9-29-98
He had a pop out belly
button
And a band(age) around his head
His great bulldog face hung
down
O Lord, don't let me live this long
So some young squirt
like me (at 64)
Can feel compassion
A plate upon his breast
A
screw welding the plate
To an aluminum rod
Jeans he wore, and
heavy
High topped oiled boots,
A plaid shirt, gapping
wide
When he got up I could see
it was a brace behind his
head
that held up the plate
And forced his bowing
head.
