21st CENTURY ART, C.E.- B.C.
"...the geometry is the light..."
SARAWAK IKAT
Ikat, one of the most precise dyeing techniques ever invented, has
been known since prehistoric times. It has been practiced in every
country in Asia:
Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, China, etc., as well as in
Africa,
and in Europe. For the difficulty it
entails -- the designs are dyed onto threads before they are woven --
it's ubiquity is astonishing.
